Title: Algebra of structured ring spectra
Rings are basic mathematical objects that are ubiquitous in algebra, number theory and algebraic geometry. Modern algebraic topology allows to form a topological generalization of rings, called structured ring spectra. This talk is an introduction to the concept of structured ring spectra. I will discuss examples of structured ring spectra, and I will present several instances of classical algebraic constructions that generalize to this topological framework. In particular, I will explain why structured ring spectra can even be relevant if one is only interested in questions about ordinary rings.
