NWO Veni grant for Arno Kret

15 July 2016

The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) has awarded a Veni grant to 22 recent doctorate recipients for research at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and the UvA’s Academic Medical Centre (AMC-UvA). With this Veni grant - of maximum 250.000 euros - highly promising young researchers can further elaborate their own ideas during a period of three years.

One of the recipients is employed at the Korteweg-de Vries Institute for Mathematics:

  • Dr Arno Kret

Hidden symmetries between prime numbers
The Langlands program is an influential unsolved problem in modern mathematics. It points out deep underlying symmetries between prime numbers and equations. The goal of this research project is to solve the problem in important cases for the general symplectic groups and general special orthogonal groups.

In total 1056 researchers submitted a proposal for a Veni grant to NWO, of whom 158 were awarded.
