KdVI Colloquia and Seminars
On this page:
General Mathematics Colloquium
The General Mathematics Colloquium is a biweekly colloquium on Wednesday afternoon, 16:00-16:45 hour for all staff from KdVI. Speakers are from other Dutch (mathematics or mathematics related) institutes or from abroad, as well as from the KdV Institute itself. In particular, guests from abroad who are staying at the KdV Institute are invited to lecture in the colloquium.
The colloquium forms an outstanding platform for the lecturers to disseminate new developments to the institute in all branches of mathematics as well as surveys of mathematical methods that are currently en vogue. The organizers are Jan-Pieter Dorsman, Mingmin Shen and Viresh Patel.
Arithmetic and Algebraic Geometry Seminar
The Arithmetic and Algebraic Geometry Seminar, organised by Lenny Taelman, Arno Kret and Mingmin Shen, is devoted to new developments in algebra, geometry and number theory with also a large emphasis on the education of PhD students.
Representation Theory Seminar
This is a seminar organised by Eric Opdam and Jasper Stokman. The representation theory seminar meets on an irregular basis. If you would like to receive e-mail announcements of upcoming talks, please send an e-mail to Jasper Stokman. The talks are also announced on the website of the seminar.
Seminar Geometry and Mathematical Physics
This seminar, organised by Sergey Shadrin, meets on an irregular basis.
The Amsterdam Math-Physics Colloquium
This colloquium is organised by Miranda Cheng twice a year.
Numerical Mathematics Colloquium
The Numerical Mathematics Colloquium takes place approximately once a month. The purpose is that researchers at the KdV institute get acquainted with research from other institutes. It attempts to follow recent developments in the Dutch Numerical Mathematical community by inviting speakers with recently developed work. The audience consists of approximately 8 to 10 people, among which researchers from the KdV institute and the CWI.
The Dynamic Analysis seminar is organized jointly with the analysis group at the VU University Amsterdam. The seminar (usually) takes place every other Wednesday, 16:00-17:00. The location of the sessions alternates in principle between UvA and VU. Talks are intended for an audience with a background in analysis and dynamical systems, including PhD students. The organizers are Oliver Fabert (VU), Rob van der Voorst (VU) and Ale Jan Homburg (UvA). For further information, please contact Ale Jan Homburg.
We will continue to have analysis talks at the UvA on subjects that have little to do with dynamical systems; those talks may occur at any day and time.
Stochastics Seminar Amsterdam
This seminar is a joint activity of workers in stochastics at KdVI, VU University and CWI, all in Amsterdam. For further information please contact Harry van Zanten (KdVI). See also records of previous lectures in the Colloquium Stochastics and Financial Mathematics
The Bayes Club
The Bayes club is an informal, bi-weekly meeting of researchers in the field of Bayesian statistics. Although the interest is general, most of the presentations concern subjects in mathematical statistics, such as non-parametric priors and the asymptotic behaviour of posterior distributions. Our aim is to exchange ideas, to present our work/research and to discuss other developments in the field. Meetings are held on Fridays, 16:00-17:00h, at KdVI, UvA, Science Park, Amsterdam. For further information please contact Bas Kleijn.
This is a seminar by and for PhD students in mathematics at KdVI. It is organised by Jarno Hartog and others.
The Mathematics Club is organised by Sergey Shadrin. High school students from the 4th, 5th and 6th grade meet on Fridays from 15:00-17:00 at the KdVI.
