During the event the UvA research groups and study programmes were introduced to our partners in industry as a first step in exploring a stronger collaboration.
UvA Quants is an initiative of three research groups from UvA to join the efforts on research and education in finance together with partners from the financial industry. The Quants Career Event was jointly organised by the the Financial Mathematics group of the Korteweg de Vries Institute for Mathematics (KdVI), Computational Science Lab of the Institute for Informatics (IvI) and the Actuarial Science and Mathematical Finance group of de Amsterdam School of Economics (ASE).
Six partners from industry signed up for the event: Rabobank, ABN AMRO, ING bank, ORTEC Finance, Ernst&Young and PriceWaterhouseCoopers. 70 students of the master programmes in finance research participated.
The main goal of the event was to introduce the UvA research groups and study programmes to our partners in industry as a first step in exploring a stronger collaboration. Presentations were given by dr. Asma Khedher (KdVI), dr. Drona Kandhai (IvI), and prof. Michel Vellekoop (ASE).
After these presentations a walking lunch was organised by the partners from industry to give the students the Master programmes more insight into practical problems and show them opportunities to take part in practical internships or professional training programmes. The companies also had the opportunity to present themselves and to have job interviews with students.
The ambition is to join the efforts on research in finance together with the study programmes and partners from the financial industry to make Amsterdam a world leading center on research and education in finance. With almost 100 participants, the first UvA Quants Career Event was a great success and will therefore be organised yearly from now on.
