2018 marked the first PhD defenses of many more to come over the next years. Remarkably, the first two PhD students to graduate, Souvik Dhara and Debankur Mukherjee, both obtained their degree with distinction.
Furthermore, much emphasis has been put on outreach activities in 2018. In April, a two-day masterclass event on networks and their applications was organized at Leiden University and the University of Amsterdam aimed at secondary education students and teachers. In addition, under the umbrella of KNAW, a thematic evening for a broad audience was organized in November at the public library in Amsterdam.
You will find a detailed description of the NETWORKS results and activities in the annual report.
NETWORKS started in the summer of 2014 as a 10-year programme funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science through the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO), hosted by the University of Amsterdam (UvA), Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), Leiden University (UL), and the Center for Mathematics and Computer Science (CWI) in Amsterdam. The programme covers a broad range of topics dealing with stochastic and algorithmic aspects of networks.
