Title: Rational points on elliptic curves

Abstract:

Elliptic curves are among the most fascinating objects in mathematics.  We will look at elliptic curves from the perspective of number theory.  The motivating problem is finding all rational points on an elliptic curve over the rational numbers, or in other words all rational solutions to a cubic equation with rational coefficients.  We will dicuss a number of examples, techniques and open questions.
