A Poisson structure on a smooth manifold can be thought of as a decomposition of the manifold (similar to a foliation or a stratification) into symplectic manifolds. In this introductory lecture to Poisson geometry, Ionut Marcut wants to discuss some of the basic concepts and questions of this field, with a focus on local structure problems.
