Title: Symplectic diffeomorphisms in dimension 2 and discrete braid invariants.

Abstract:

We consider symplectic diffeomorphism in dimension 2 as compositions of twist mappings. Using the latter decomposition we can invoke the Conley index theory of braid classes to obtain discrete braid invariants. The latter can be used to find periodic points in a Morse type theory.
