Title: An overview of statistical methods in genetics

Abstract:
The field of genetics has seen rapid development during the past decades due to technological improvements allowing more reliable and large scale genotyping of the human genome. These advances have helped to increase our understanding of the genetic basis of many common phenotypes, in particular diseases. The overwhelming amount of data, often consisting of millions of observed genetic loci for thousands of individuals, provides new challenges. Currently many different statistical methods are employed to analyse these data sets. I will give an overview of the most frequently used methods and discuss some open problems.
