The rise of chaos from shear and randomness
We will discuss the phenomenon of shear-induced chaos, going back to van der Pol and van der Mark 80 years ago, referring to chaotic behaviour as a result of shear being magnified by some external forcing.
We will present a series of results on indicators of chaos for the situation of stochastic forcing, highlighting some general ideas about random dynamical systems, Lyapunov exponents and computer-assisted proofs.
