As of 1 September, Jan Brandts has been appointed programme director for the Master's programmes in Mathematics, Stochastics and Financial Mathematics, and Mathematical Physics. He succeeds Jasper Stokman in this role.

Jan has been working at the UvA since 2002, and has been associate professor since 2011. He conducts research in the field of numerical linear algebra and computational geometry. He teaches in the UvA Bachelor's Mathematics, as well as in the national Mastermath programme. In 2018 he was awarded KdVI's Golden Chalk for lecturer of the year and earlier this year he obtained his Advanced UTQ ('SKO') with a project on inclusivity in the Bachelor's programme.

Jan will continue on the path set out by Stokman, to collaborate with neighbouring disciplines such as physics, econometrics and logic. Either through specialisation tracks or double degree programmes for high-achieving students. In addition, he will focus his efforts on ensuring the programmes are both doable and inclusive for the 'regular' student.
