The board of NWO Domain Science has awarded 24 applications for PhD positions within the mathematics clusters, of which 4 have been awarded to members of Korteweg-de Vries Institute for Mathematics. The Mathematics Clusters PhD positions call contributes to the consolidation of the mathematics clusters in the Netherlands.

The aim is to give an extra boost to the pooling of resources of Mathematics in the Netherlands and to its international position. The purpose of this call has been to create additional PhD positions in mathematics.

The topics range from research into deconstructing algebraic structures to stochastic partial differential equations. The research will be carried out by PhD students who are supervised by experienced mathematicians.

At Korteweg-de Vries Institute the following proposals have been granted, with the name of researcher and cluster:

Positivity for stochastic partial differential equations
Dr. ir. Sonja Cox  -  STAR

The cohomology of Newton strata in the endoscopic case
Dr. Arno Kret  -  DIAMANT

Extensions and degenerations of Hodge classes
Dr. Mingmin Shen  -  GQT

Simultaneous space-time solvers for parabolic data-assimilation problems
Prof. dr. Rob Stevenson  -  NDNS+
